Celebrating Together—Even Without Fireworks
In two weeks, Liechtenstein will celebrate its National Day. The varied program—featuring the official state ceremony and the large public festival in the Städtle, with numerous musical, culinary, and other highlights—will take place as planned. However, due to the ongoing drought and the associated high risk of forest fires, the traditional fireworks display will be canceled.
July 31, 2026 — The national holiday is marked by many traditions: the official ceremony in the morning, the large public festival in the old town in the afternoon, and the communal moment after dark. This year, the communal moment at 10:00 p.m. will take place without fireworks. A complete ban on outdoor fires is currently in effect. The reason for this is the ongoing drought and the associated high risk of wildfires. Since the situation is not expected to improve significantly in the coming days, the organizers, together with the relevant authorities, decided today to cancel the fireworks display ahead of schedule. This provides early planning certainty for all involved.
The evening program will be adjusted
The early cancellation allows the organizers to make targeted adjustments to the evening program. The fireworks cannot be replaced. Together with the participating partners, the organizers are currently working to create an atmospheric experience for the shared moment at 10:00 p.m. using the existing program elements. Information about specific changes will be provided in the coming days.
In advance, the mountain rescue service was provided with alternative solutions in case of a fire ban. Electronic lighting elements will be used for mountain illumination, the light parade along the Fürstensteig, and the crown on Tuass. Registration for the light parade along the Fürstensteig will be open starting Monday, August 3, 2026.
“Fireworks are a tradition and, for many people, an integral part of the National Holiday. That makes it all the more regrettable that we have to do without them this year. At the same time, our National Holiday is about so much more: the connections we make, the clubs, the music, and celebrating together. With this diverse program, we’re confident that we’ll experience a special National Holiday again this year,” explains Mathias Ulrich, Managing Director of Liechtenstein Marketing.
Nearly 50 clubs, 30 concerts, and Liechtenstein’s largest outdoor quiz
This year’s National Holiday once again offers numerous highlights for young and old alike: Starting at 12:00 p.m., the food stands in the Städtle will open, and the varied children’s program will begin. Starting at 2:00 p.m., a diverse festival program on five different stages will provide top-notch entertainment. Numerous artists, primarily from Liechtenstein, will create a festive atmosphere. Forty-seven clubs will contribute to the culinary delights and hours of entertainment. New this year, guests at the popular Winzerdörfle can look forward to Liechtenstein’s largest outdoor quiz. In addition, Wavvyboi, currently one of Liechtenstein’s best-known artists, will provide the musical highlight with a concert.
