EMK Triesen: Innovation, Quality, and a Strong Connection to Liechtenstein
For more than 30 years, EMK Triesen has been a staple in the professional kitchen ventilation industry. What began as a small business has grown into a well-established provider of innovative ceiling systems. Under the leadership of Managing Director Max Gross, EMK is committed to quality, perfectionism, and sustainable solutions.
April 10, 2025 - From Concept to In-House Production
Founded in the 1980s, EMK initially specialized in the purchase and installation of third-party systems. But it soon became clear that in-house developments would enable even better solutions. With this goal in mind, EMK began producing its own ceiling systems for professional kitchens. Today, the company is a leader in its field and is particularly known for its Free-Flow systems. This highly effective perimeter extraction duct, which is adapted to the emission points, prevents cooking fumes from escaping into adjacent rooms—an essential solution for open-concept dining establishments.
Precision and Innovation: EMK's Strengths
EMK is more than just a supplier of ventilation systems—the company is known for its customized, high-quality solutions. The challenge is particularly great in open kitchens, such as those found in many places—for example, in Coop, Migros, or highway restaurants: While food is prepared right in front of guests at the counter, cooking odors must not spread to adjacent seating areas or neighboring storefronts. This is exactly where EMK comes in. Thanks to custom-designed exhaust ducts, fumes are extracted directly from the cooking surfaces, while the rest of the room remains odor-free. EMK’s clients include school kitchens, nursing homes, cafeterias, hospitals, hotels, restaurants, and more.
Another key differentiator for EMK is its in-house production. This enables the company to respond flexibly to the needs of customers and architects and deliver precise solutions that fit perfectly into their respective environments. This commitment to perfection has helped EMK become the market leader in this sector.
Liechtenstein as a business location
It is no coincidence that EMK is headquartered in Triesen: The company was founded by a resident of Triesen and has close ties to the region. Many of its long-time employees are from the surrounding area, which means the company is firmly rooted in the local labor market. In addition, Liechtenstein offers attractive economic conditions that EMK can take advantage of.
To best serve its customers in Switzerland, EMK collaborates with a sister company in Schindellegi. While production takes place in Triesen, the kitchen ceilings are installed by the Swiss branch. EMK’s main market is in Switzerland, but the company is also active internationally: EMK has already successfully completed projects in countries ranging from Germany, England, and France to Mauritius and Réunion.
Max Gross: From External Consultant to Managing Director
Max Gross’s path to EMK is remarkable. After completing a commercial apprenticeship, various advanced training programs, and a degree in finance and taxation, he worked as an auditor, accountant, tax advisor, and, most recently, as a specialist in international tax law at a private bank based in Liechtenstein. He had been in contact with EMK from an early stage as an external consultant and resident of Triesen, particularly regarding financial matters. When the company’s founder passed away unexpectedly, discussions and negotiations with the heirs led to his decision to accept the challenge.
Today, he leads the company, which has nearly 50 employees, and drives key initiatives—from digitalization and process automation to the further development of the production chain and adapting to new customer needs. His day-to-day work is diverse: from financial responsibility to contract negotiations and human resources management to strategic decisions—his role as managing director challenges him anew every day. His recipe for success? The courage to make clear decisions and to take responsibility for managing mistakes when things don’t go according to plan.
Challenges and Outlook for the Future
The past few years have been anything but easy for the industry. The impact of the COVID-19 pandemic led to supply shortages and price increases for raw materials such as aluminum and chrome steel—a challenge that was particularly evident in 2022. The strong euro also made doing business in the European market more difficult. As a result, EMK is increasingly focusing on the Swiss market, while pursuing international projects on a selective basis.
EMK remains a leader in innovation: Its ceiling systems are particularly low-maintenance and durable—a decisive advantage over the competition. In addition, EMK is an active brand partner of Liechtenstein Marketing. The company views this as an opportunity to increase its own brand awareness and strengthen its connection to Liechtenstein as a business location. After all, the “Made in Liechtenstein” seal of quality is a strong selling point not only nationally but also internationally. Conclusion: A company with vision
EMK Triesen combines tradition with innovation. Its high-quality ventilation solutions for professional kitchens set the standard in the industry, while in-house production ensures maximum quality and flexibility. With Max Gross at the helm, the company remains dynamic and is ready to tackle the challenges and seize the opportunities of the future.
