LINGG Thomas Institute

We've got you covered—from trucks to sandboxes.

November 4, 2025 - When you walk into the workshop of the tarpaulin makers on Sägastrasse in Nendeln, it feels a bit like a giant tailor’s shop—except that instead of cotton or silk on the sewing machines, there are sturdy tarpaulin fabrics and durable mesh materials. Everywhere you look, there’s PVC-coated polyester fabric, workbenches, templates, and machines—and right in the middle of it all is Thomas Lingg, who knows exactly how to turn this durable material into custom-made masterpieces.

Thomas Lingg: “Our projects are as diverse as the materials themselves: tarpaulin covers are one of our core competencies. Whether for trucks, trailers, semi-trailers, delivery vans, or pickup trucks—our team manufactures the perfect tarpaulin cover for every vehicle, tailored exactly to the customer’s specifications.” But the variety doesn’t stop there: sun sails, pool covers, sandbox covers, advertising banners, textile prints, tents, and even prototypes like the rain hood for eTriBikes or the bags for Liechtenstein Marketing—everything finds its place in the Lingg workshop.

I’m particularly proud of projects like the model-making workshop at the University of Liechtenstein: Over 200 parts made of special materials had to be fabricated, welded, and assembled with precision—a true balancing act between technology and craftsmanship. I’m happy to show the book that describes the project, and the corresponding blueprint hangs on the wall of my workshop. If you look closely, you can see how much thought went into it and how much “artistry” was required to bring this impressive project to life.

Whether it’s small custom-made items or large-scale structures like the tent roof on the town hall in Vaduz—every project is approached with the same care. Every piece is one-of-a-kind, and every challenge is an opportunity to get creative. This approach consistently yields something new—functional, precise, and high-quality—and sometimes with a touch of whimsy, such as the clever sandbox covers designed to keep animals out.

From the Workbench to Entrepreneurship

I originally completed an apprenticeship as a cabinetmaker; my father, Edi Lingg, was already working for a tarpaulin specialist. I myself worked for the largest tarpaulin manufacturer in Switzerland and gained extensive knowledge in manufacturing and installation over the course of two years. In 2005, I took the plunge into self-employment—inspired in part by my work with the Vaduz Fire Department, where many fellow entrepreneurs encouraged me to strike out on my own. Today, my father supports me in the business, and since 2023, I’ve had a motivated and qualified employee on the team in Manuel Böckle, who now also serves as my deputy. In addition, my wife Maria and Maja Nägele from “Soll + Haben Anstalt” support me in the back office and with bookkeeping.

To me, my company is more than just a workshop—it’s a place where tradition, craftsmanship, and innovation come together. Every new material, every new fastener, and every new technique presents a challenge for our team—and at the same time, an opportunity to develop solutions that are functional, high-quality, and durable. This results in products that are not only practical but also demonstrate the highest quality in their craftsmanship. We are small but flexible; we respond to customer requests and carry out every project with passion.

Craftsmanship with a Future Whether for customers in Liechtenstein, Switzerland, Vorarlberg, or international projects—quality and personalized consultation are our top priorities. We measure, plan, and manufacture custom-fit solutions. You can choose the design and materials to suit your needs. Upon request, we can equip covers, tents, and other products with zippers, Velcro fasteners, rope closures, clamp buckles, or grommets.

We even had the opportunity to manufacture components for an 11,000-square-meter sunshade in Dubai. Customers can also send us a photo of the product they wish to protect; once we have the dimensions, we’ll be happy to provide a quote.

In 2024, LINGG Thomas Anstalt became a brand partner of Liechtenstein Marketing and proudly bears the “Product of Liechtenstein” seal of quality. As the only tarpaulin manufacturer in the country, I am particularly excited about the opportunity to connect with other exciting companies. “Brand Day” is a special occasion: you meet like-minded people, make connections, and sometimes this even leads to surprising collaborations. And what matters most to me in my day-to-day work? Service, quality—and a good relationship with our customers.

Our takeaway after speaking with Thomas Lingg: They’ve got everything covered—from tiny sandboxes to massive truck tarps. A small business with a big impact.
