A successful national holiday with many regional highlights
The organizing committee for the 2024 National Holiday is pleased with the initial assessment of this year’s celebrations. From the official ceremony to the public festival featuring numerous clubs, the winegrowers’ village, and the youth zone, right through to the traditional evening fireworks display, the day proceeded peacefully.
August 15, 2024 – After a break of a few years, this year’s state ceremony was once again held with a reception, which was very well received by the public. All tickets had already been sold out in advance, and a total of around 2,700 guests attended the state ceremony. The decision to move the state ceremony forward by one hour paid off, allowing everyone to enjoy a festive ceremony in temperatures that were not too hot. The speeches by H.S.H. Hereditary Prince Alois von und zu Liechtenstein and Landtag President Albert Frick were accompanied by music from the Balzers Harmony Band and a group from the YoungUnlimited Choir.
Over 30,000 visitors at the fair
The afternoon festival in the old town of Vaduz was a huge success. “Shortly after 12:00 p.m., there were already numerous visitors throughout the old town, enjoying refreshments at the various stands,” says Mathias Ulrich, Managing Director of Liechtenstein Marketing, with delight. “It was wonderful for us to see that the many clubs participated with such enthusiasm on National Day and that the Winzerdörfle, with its regional delicacies, was once again a big hit this year.” Since the weather was so good, the shaded areas, the refreshing festival beer, and the water play activities in the youth zone were very popular. Overall, the organizers estimate that around 30,000 visitors attended the festival.
Lots of music and variety from the host community
The visiting community demonstrated just how musically talented Balzers is with its diverse stage program—featuring Rääs, Mayvie, the Harmoniemusik band, and many others. In the afternoon, interactive activities such as a photo booth, a soccer goal-shooting game, and a horsing obstacle course provided plenty of variety.
Traditional fireworks
Just as darkness fell, the first lights began to shine from the mountain peaks. Shortly after 9:00 p.m., the Liechtenstein Mountain Rescue Service illuminated the mountain panorama with bonfires, a torchlight procession, and the crown on Tuass. The highlight of the day was the fireworks display, which once again drew great enthusiasm from the spectators this year. The spectacle in the sky provided the perfect conclusion to the 2024 National Holiday.
