National Holiday 2026: Anything but run-of-the-mill

June 15, 2026 — In exactly two months, it will be that time again: Liechtenstein will celebrate its National Day. This year, the traditional event will feature a new visual identity. After all, August 15 is anything but an ordinary day. Time-honored traditions remain: The official state ceremony in the morning, the big public festival in the old town in the afternoon, and the traditional fireworks display in the evening will once again form the cornerstones of the National Day in 2026.

A New Look for the National Holiday
“It is a special pleasure for us to present thenew brandingfor the National Holiday today,” says Mathias Ulrich, Managing Director of Liechtenstein Marketing, as he welcomes the participants to the press conference. For several weeks now, a campaign has been drawing attention and sparking curiosity about the new look. “National Day is anything but an ordinary, run-of-the-mill day. That’s why we’re flipping the numbers to make 15/08—the date of our National Day,” explains Ulrich. The new logo incorporates elements from all eleven municipal coats of arms as well as the national flag, symbolizing what has always defined National Day: community, solidarity, and the visibility of participants from across the country. “The National Holiday thrives on participation. Clubs, cultural organizations, municipalities, businesses, and numerous other partners all contribute to making this celebration a special experience year after year,” says Ulrich.

State Ceremony: Tickets available starting June 16 in residents’ municipalities
Thestate ceremony will take place in the morning, featuring addresses by H.S.H. Hereditary Prince Alois von und zu Liechtenstein and Manfred Kaufmann, President of the Landtag. Following this, Bishop Benno Elbs will bestow a solemn blessing upon Liechtenstein, before the Princely Family invites guests to a reception on the castle lawn. This year’s musical accompaniment will be provided by the Bendern-Gamprin Church Choir and the Konkordia Gamprin Music Association.
As in previous years, attendance at the state ceremony is by ticket only. Tickets will be available to residents starting Tuesday, June 16, 2026, at their respective municipalities of residence. Liechtenstein citizens living abroad can pick up free tickets on Wednesday, August 12, 2026, at the Liechtenstein Center. Since the number of tickets is limited and the goal is to allow as many people as possible to attend, please pick up only the number of tickets you actually need.

Folk Festival: Winzerdörfle Returns with Liechtenstein’s Largest Outdoor Quiz
Starting at 12:00 p.m., the food and drink stands in Vaduz’s old town will open their doors, accompanied by a varied children’s program. Starting at 2:00 p.m., a diverse festival program on five different stages will provide top-notch entertainment. Numerous artists, primarily from Liechtenstein, will create a festive atmosphere. Once again this year, regional offerings and sustainable initiatives are at the heart of the National Day celebrations. “We’ll once again have a Winzerdörfle at the Marktplatzgarage,” says Kerstin Künzle, Head of Events at Liechtenstein Marketing. This year, a special highlight awaits guests there. “Together with Nicolas Biedermann, we’re hosting Liechtenstein’s largest outdoor quiz. Everyone can test their knowledge of Liechtenstein and the National Day and win attractive prizes,” says Künzle. Another eye-catcher will be the photo spot featuring the new National Day logo, which invites visitors to take a souvenir photo.

Sustainability remains an important part of the national holiday: On August 15, LIEmobil will operate free of charge and at increased frequency throughout its entire network. This service is complemented by the tried-and-true reusable cup and deposit system, as well as waste sorting stations throughout the old town.

Gamprin, the Guest Municipality, with Special Guest “Wavvyboi”
The up-and-coming municipality of Gamprin is taking center stage as this year’s guest municipality for the National Day celebrations. “We are very excited to bring Peter-Kaiser-Platz to life on this day that is so important to all of us,” says Mayor Johannes Hasler. “Six clubs are providing the culinary offerings and will serve a diverse selection of food and drinks.” The charming chalet at Alp Rauz creates a special mountain hut atmosphere, inviting visitors to linger and enjoy themselves.

Another highlight awaits guests on the stage in the host community. “It is a special honor for us to announce one of Liechtenstein’s best-known artists today. Wavvyboi will provide the musical highlight with a concert following the fireworks,” said Hasler.

Traditional Evening Light Show
At 9:15 p.m., the bonfires, the crown on Tuass, and the torchlight procession on the Fürstensteig will be lit, heralding the evening’s main highlight: the fireworks at 10:00 p.m. Once again this year, the fireworks will be launched from the Langacker meadow above the Aukreisels.

’s Proven Security and Traffic Plan To ensure that the national holiday proceeds safely, peacefully, and in an orderly manner, the cantonal police are relying on a proven and comprehensive security plan. “The security measures in place so far have proven effective. With targeted adjustments, we are continuously refining the plan and enhancing safety for all visitors,” says Gino Blumenthal, head of operations for the Liechtenstein State Police. The traffic management plan will also be implemented again this year and optimized in specific areas. Since tens of thousands of guests are expected at the festival, the Liechtenstein State Police recommends traveling by public transportation or bicycle. Signposted parking areas are available outside the city center.

Thanks to the close cooperation of all participating organizations, visitors will be able to enjoy the national holiday without a care and experience an festive day together.
